Chronic Total Occlusion Program

Advanced Expertise for Complex Coronary Blockages

Chronic Total Occlusion refers to a complete blockage of a coronary artery for over three months. The complex lesions require specialized expertise, advanced imaging, and dedicated infrastructure for successful outcomes.

At Continental Heart Center, our Chronic Total Occlusion (CTO) Program offers highly specialized treatment for patients with completely blocked coronary arteries, often considered among the most complex forms of coronary artery disease. Using advanced imaging, precision-guided techniques, and expert interventional cardiology, the program is designed to restore blood flow, relieve symptoms, improve heart function, and enhance quality of life for patients requiring advanced coronary intervention.

Advanced Imaging & Precision Technology

At Continental Heart Center we use advanced imaging tools to visualize complex coronary blockages with exceptional clarity and detail. This enables safer planning, greater accuracy, and improved outcomes during CTO procedures. This includes IVUS/OCT guided CTO interventions, a cutting-edge Biplane Cath Lab, and real-time imaging for improved wire navigation and stent optimization.

Precision-guided Decision Making

Every treatment decision is guided by detailed imaging, clinical assessment, and procedural expertise. This ensures each patient receives the most appropriate and effective intervention strategy. This is ensured with a stress thallium scan, myocardial viability scan using SPECT or a latest cardiac MRI, and 3D ECHO with strain pattern analysis with stress ECHO.

Dedicated Complex CTO Infrastructure

Continental Heart Center is equipped with specialized infrastructure designed specifically for advanced and high-complexity CTO interventions. This allows us to perform challenging procedures with greater confidence, efficiency, and safety. We are equipped with advanced CTO wires and microcatheters, retrograde and antegrade CTO techniques, and on site plaque modification tools such as laser atherectomy, rotablation, and intravascular lithotripsy.

Surgical & Critical Care Back-up

High-risk CTO procedures are supported by immediate access to cardiac surgery and advanced critical care teams. This ensures comprehensive safety and seamless escalation of care whenever required. At Continental Heart Center we have a comprehensive and dedicated critical care team along with an on-site CTVS backup and employ a hybrid approach as and when required.

24/7 Mechanical Circulatory Support

Round-the-clock access to mechanical circulatory support strengthens our ability to manage unstable or high-risk cardiac patients. This provides vital hemodynamic support during complex interventions and emergencies. For complex and high-risk CTO we have 24/7 availability of ECMO, Impella, and IABP support alongside a team of highly skilled doctors and technicians.
