In 2025, he was named International Fellow of the American Association of Neurological Surgeons. He is also a fellow of the Global Healthcare Leadership Programme from Harvard Medical School, Boston, USA and visiting faculty at the Canning's Institute, Northwestern University Hospital, Chicago and Tianjin Military Hospital, China.
Before joining Continental Hospitals, Dr Hrishikesh Sarkar held leadership roles such as Director and Head of Neurosurgery at MIOT International, Chennai, and Senior Consultant at Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital, Mumbai. His innovative work has redefined keyhole neurosurgery, introducing approaches like the Mini Supraorbital and Eyelid Corridor techniques, and performing South India’s first “Awake” Brain Bypass Surgery for stroke.
Dr. Sarkar has authored over 35 peer-reviewed research papers, served as Editor and Reviewer for international journals, and co-edited the Springer textbook “Complications in Neurosurgery”. His patient-centric approach, precision, and commitment to innovation make him one of India’s most respected neurosurgeons.
Advanced Neurosurgical / Technical Procedures
Neurological Diseases / Disorders
General Symptoms / Conditions
Dr. Hrishikesh Sarkar is widely recognized for treating highly complex neurological and neurosurgical cases with exceptional precision and advanced clinical expertise. With extensive experience in brain, spine, nerve and skull surgeries, he has earned a reputation for delivering successful outcomes even in challenging situations where others consider surgery high-risk. Dr. Sarkar specializes in minimally invasive neurosurgery, skull base disorders, brain tumor removal, epilepsy surgery, deep brain stimulation, pediatric neurosurgery and complex spine procedures. Patients from across India and abroad seek his care for accurate diagnosis, safe surgical techniques and faster recovery. He offers comprehensive treatment for a wide range of neurological conditions, including all the advanced procedures and treatments listed below.
1. Keyhole Endoscopic Skull Base Surgery
A minimally invasive neurosurgical technique that uses a small keyhole opening to access deep-seated brain tumors and complex skull base conditions. This approach minimizes tissue damage, reduces pain, shortens hospital stays, and promotes faster recovery while maintaining exceptional surgical precision.
2. Skull Base Surgery
Highly specialized surgery to treat deep-seated brain tumors, vascular lesions, and cranial nerve disorders located at the base of the skull while preserving critical neurological structures and functions.
3. Complex Brain Tumor Surgery
Advanced microsurgical and minimally invasive techniques for the safe and precise removal of benign and malignant brain tumors, with a focus on preserving neurological function and improving patient outcomes.
4. Brain Bypass Surgery
One of the largest experiences in India within the private healthcare sector for performing complex brain bypass (cerebral revascularization) surgeries to restore blood flow in patients with Moyamoya disease and other cerebrovascular disorders.
5. Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS)
A minimally invasive procedure in which electrodes are implanted in specific areas of the brain to effectively manage movement disorders such as Parkinson's disease, essential tremors, and dystonia.
6. Neuromodulation Therapy
Advanced neuromodulation techniques, including spinal cord stimulation and peripheral nerve stimulation, to effectively manage chronic neuropathic pain, movement disorders, and other complex neurological conditions when conventional treatments are not sufficient.
7. Advanced Epilepsy Surgery & Medical Management
Comprehensive epilepsy care, including video-EEG evaluation, medication optimization, and advanced minimally invasive epilepsy surgery for patients with drug-resistant seizures.
8. Lumbar Disc Surgery
Microdiscectomy and endoscopic spine surgery to remove herniated disc material, relieve nerve compression, and reduce back and leg pain while promoting faster recovery.
9. Lumbar Spinal Stenosis Treatment
Minimally invasive decompression procedures designed to relieve pressure on spinal nerves, reducing numbness, weakness, and pain in the lower limbs.
10. Minimally Invasive Spine Surgery
Advanced small-incision spine procedures for slipped discs, spinal stenosis, nerve compression, spinal instability, and spinal trauma, offering less pain, minimal scarring, and quicker recovery.
11. Epidural (Extradural) Hematoma Management
Emergency neurosurgical treatment to remove blood clots between the skull and the dura mater, preventing brain compression and other life-threatening complications.
12. Pituitary Adenoma Surgery
Advanced endoscopic transnasal surgery to safely remove pituitary gland tumors, helping restore hormonal balance, improve vision, and relieve neurological symptoms.
13. Management of Brain Tumors
Comprehensive brain tumor management, including advanced MRI evaluation, microsurgery, stereotactic radiosurgery, postoperative rehabilitation, and long-term follow-up care.
14. Skull Fracture / Cranial Trauma Management
Expert neurosurgical treatment for skull fractures, traumatic brain injuries, intracranial bleeding, and accident-related head injuries using advanced surgical techniques.
15. Keyhole Microvascular Decompression (MVD)
A minimally invasive keyhole procedure to relieve pressure caused by blood vessels compressing cranial nerves, providing long-term relief from trigeminal neuralgia and hemifacial spasm while preserving nerve function.
16. Trigeminal Neuralgia Treatment
Comprehensive medical and surgical treatment for severe facial nerve pain using microvascular decompression, nerve blocks, radiofrequency procedures, and stereotactic radiosurgery.
17. Epilepsy Treatment for Children & Adults
Advanced epilepsy diagnosis using EEG and neuroimaging, along with personalized medication management and surgical treatment for difficult-to-control seizures.
18. Parkinson's Disease Treatment
Individualized treatment combining medications, physiotherapy, rehabilitation, and Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS) to improve movement, balance, tremors, and overall quality of life.
